Christian Science Healing & Teaching

Our beloved teacher, Brian Talcott, devoted his life to the healing practice of Christian Science.

This Science — as taught and demonstrated by the Master Christ Jesus — was rediscovered in the 19th Century by Mary Baker Eddy, whose profound legacy of healing and teaching forms the foundation of our Church, which is based in Boston, MA, and has branches throughout the world.

Before entering the full-time practice of Christian Science healing in 1979, Brian served as a Protestant Chaplain in the U.S. Air Force during the conflict in Vietnam beginning in 1972, after having just completed a degree in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. He was on active duty for 10 years, and remained active in the Air Force Reserves for another 23 years, until 2005. Brian also served our Church as a public lecturer, as Committee on Publication for Northern California (a public relations role), and in different positions throughout his many years of membership at his local branch church in Berkeley, CA. In 1988, Brian became an accredited teacher of this Science.

He and his wife Nancy Talcott raised two girls, who blessed them with four grandsons.

Each of us went through Primary Class Instruction with Brian — a two week, consecrated course on Christian Science focused on the chapter titled Recapitulation from the Christian Science textbook Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Beyond this once-in-a-lifetime event, our Teacher continued to support each of us individually in our spiritual growth and understanding — toward the end that we may all more and more fully demonstrate our own ability to heal, comfort, and bless mankind.

Brian also supported us collectively for many years through his annual addresses to our Association, on topics of his choosing — over which we all studied and prayed together in the months leading up to this very special, day-long event.

Since his passing in 2022, we have continued to convene under the guidance of an honored guest speaker each year, and forever cherish what he gave to us each individually and to our Church and world.
